The Chilean-American singer-songwriter goes deep and finds healing on her new album

A few months after experiencing motherhood for the first time, Chilean singer-songwriter Francisca Valenzuela began planning a new album. Over Zoom, suffering from exhaustion and postpartum depression, she spoke to a trusted collaborator about making an exuberant party record that would channel the bubbly physicality of Italian icon Raffaella Carrá. “Fran, are you sure you wanna do this?” the producer replied.

Adorning the walls of San Ildefonso College in Mexico City is artist Diego Rivera's masterpiece, rendered in fresco and gold leaf, The Creation, or La Creacioń. Franco Baresi, the former AC Milan captain who was one of Italy’s most acclaimed defenders, has died. He was 66.

His death was announced on Friday by Milan, the football club where he spent his entire 20-year playing career. No cause of death was given.

In Hollywood’s original horror heyday of the 1930s and ’40s, it would have been hard to imagine another figure challenging the classic terror quartet of Dracula, Frankenstein monster, werewolf and mummy — let alone that the lowly zombie would ever become serious competition. Yet while those aforementioned creatures still get rehabilitated on a regular basis, they’re now greatly surpassed in popular visibility by a cannibal undead that didn’t even exist in the genre until more recent decades.
