Amazon Just Slashed Prices on Magic: The Gathering Sets That Haven't Even Launched Yet for Prime Day, Plus Massive Discounts on Marvel and Hobbit Boosters

Whether you’re new to Magic: The Gathering or have been playing for years, it’s an expensive hobby. And while it’s always “just one more booster pack” or “one more Commander Deck”, finding great Magic deals helps build out a collection for a little less.

Thankfully, Prime Day has arrived, and it’s packed with Magic deals across bundles, Commander decks, and Play Booster boxes, whether you’re looking for Universes Beyond or something true to Magic’s ever-evolving lore.

Play Booster Boxes

Kicking things off with the humble Play Booster, we’ve seen a bunch of great deals - including one on the Star Trek set. Yes, the Star Trek set that doesn’t launch until next month.

Right now, Amazon is offering a 19% discount on a Play Booster box from the upcoming set, bringing it down to $170.61 for 30 packs.

It’s not just Picard and pals, either. Secrets of Strixhaven was probably my favorite set of this year so far, and you can pick up a Play Booster Box for $134.94 - an 18% discount from the MSRP of $164.70.

After the disappointment of Marvel’s Spider-Man, I was pleased to see that Marvel Super Heroes is a much better set, and you can save 28% on a Play Booster box. It’s $147.95 instead of $209.70.

Finally, Universes Beyond: The Hobbit sees Magic return to Middle-Earth, and you can save 23% on a Play Booster box there, too. It’s $161.99 instead of $211.11, and you get yourself a box topper.

Collector Boosters and Bundles

It’s worth noting that Play Boosters are much, much less likely to contain the more valuable cards in any given set. Instead, you’ll need to opt for more expensive Collector Boosters, but those can be like gold dust.

There are some discounted bundles that can net you a Collector Booster, though. The Marvel Super Heroes Gift Bundle includes 9 Play Boosters and a Collector Booster, and you can save $10 right now, bringing it down to just shy of $80.

If you’re not fussed by the Collector Booster, the Marvel Super Heroes Bundle is discounted by a much bigger 27%, bringing it down to just over $50 for those Play Boosters and some extra goodies.

Another option is Draft Night, with the Marvel one discounted by 25%. It includes 12 Play Boosters to play sealed Magic with, and a Collector Booster for the winner, but we won’t tell if you just buy the box for yourself. And at $89.99, we crunched the numbers - you’re basically getting the Collector Booster for $6.

More into Turtles than Superheroes? The Magic x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza bundle includes 9 Play Boosters and a Collector Booster. It’s dropped from $99.99 down to $89.99 - radical!

Lastly, for bundles, the Starter Collection is a great way to get yourself a bundle of cards that are standard-legal for you to build your own decks with, and it’s down to $51.79 from $59.99. It includes over 350 cards, and you’ll get three Play Boosters for good measure, too.

Commander Precons

Commander is Magic’s most popular format by a country mile, and what helps keep it ticking over is the regular cadence of new preconstructed decks you can play right out of the box, tear apart to make your own, or use to kick off a regular Commander night with friends.

Blight Curse is a fantastic precon from Lorwyn Eclipsed earlier this year, and it’s seeing a 30% discount. That brings it from $49.99 down to $34.95, although I’d caution newcomers against picking it up, as it’s not the most straightforward playstyle.

Instead, consider Avengers Assemble. This Marvel Super Heroes precon is packed with familiar faces and is a great deck to learn to play the Commander format with. It’s $54.90, down from $74.99.

Sticking with Marvel precons, the Fantastic Four one is seeing a price drop to $44.99. Amazon has that at a 17% discount, but given the MSRP is actually $74.99, it’s a steeper drop than that. Doom Prevails, which is all about Marvel villains, is down to $67.38 - a roughly 10% discount.

Finally, the Fallout Commander Decks were pretty great and full of flavor for anyone who loves the long-running RPG series, and the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. precon is under $50. It’s not the easiest for newcomers to get started with, but if you want a piece of the Wasteland in your Magic collection, this is a good way to get it.
