The next chapter in The Fast & the Furious franchise, Fast Forever, is set to be released in 2028. While it is being touted as the series finale, it seems like The Fast & the Furious still hasn't run out of gas. Peacock has announced that the series will be making the jump to television with the help of star Vin Diesel.

As reported by Variety, Peacock has greenlit a series that it hopes will premiere in 2028 to coincide with the release of the next film. Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy, Shades of Blue) and Wolfe Coleman (Shades of Blue, 9-1-1: Lone Star) will write the pilot and serve as showrunners and executive producers. Diesel, who will serve as an executive producer on the project, shared in May that a series was in development, but Peacock's announcement makes it official. There is no word on whether Diesel will also reprise his role as street racer and auto mechanic Dominic Toretto. That may depend on the character's fate in Fast Forever, which is currently slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

What we know about Fast Forever

It's been over three years since Fast X ended on a cliffhanger. While Fast Forever has been repeatedly delayed, Diesel says the film will finally enter production this December. Fast X director Louis Leterrier is also directing Fast Forever. Diesel told fans that the screenplay written by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) is "the best script I have read in decades" and that it made him cry.

In addition to Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris will likely also reprise their roles. Post-credits scenes from Fast X teased the return of Gisele Yashar (Gal Gadot) and Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). Diesel previously said one condition for the finale was reuniting Dom and Brian O'Conner (played by the late Paul Walker). Caleb Walker, who helped double for his late brother to complete filming on Furious 7, said that he thinks Brian could return, "But it would take a lot of thought, and it'd have to be tasteful."
