PS Plus subscribers get four games in September

On Wednesday, Sony revealed the next batch of PlayStation Plus subscribers' free Essential games. Like most months, there's a little something for everyone on offer: Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Wobbly Life, and MLB The Show 26 make up September 2026's offerings. You'll be able to start downloading the four games on Sept. 1.

Chained Echoes

Chained Echoes is a 16-bit turn-based RPG from 2022. Its world is full of fantastical creatures and magic, but also giant mechs. Basically, if you ever wanted to see a Gundam fight a dragon, give Chained Echoes a spin. Developer Umami Tiger (Matthias Linda) describes it as "a story-driven JRPG where a group of heroes travel around the vast continent of Valandis to bring an end to the war between its three kingdoms." Like so many RPGs, there's some heft to Chained Echoes as it'll take you 30-40 hours to complete. Every enemy will be visible, so at least there won't be any random encounters making the experience feel bloated.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

The latest entry in Rebellion's AA Sniper Elite series is 2025's Sniper Elite: Resistance. It sends players to World War II (of course) to snipe Nazis (sold). Resistance takes place parallel to Sniper Elite 5, but spotlights the French Resistance this time. "Offering unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth and tactical third-person combat, Sniper Elite: Resistance turns the attention of the award-winning series towards a hidden war, far from the front lines, deep within the heart of occupied France," reads the game's official description. Like the Mortal Kombat games, Sniper Elite is known for its X-ray kill cam, so expect lots of slo-mo shots of Nazis getting their brains blown out.

Wobbly Life

If you need a break from mech battles and headshotting Nazis, Wobbly Life works as a nice palate cleanser. It offers a colorful playground for you to enjoy. Developer RubberBandGames describes Wobbly Life as "a vibrant open-world physics sandbox. Play with your friends online or in local co-op, with exciting jobs, minigames and wacky story missions." Players have enjoyed Wobbly Life's goofy chaos as it has nearly 18,000 Overwhelmingly Positive player reviews on Steam. If your gaming group finished this month's Big Walk, then Wobbly Life arrives just in time.

MLB The Show 26

MLB The Show 26 is only a few months old as it launched in March, ahead of the current baseball season. It's officially described as "the most immersive MLB The Show yet." In the Road to the Show mode, you'll start your created player's career in high school and work your way through college (which includes 11 new college teams to choose from) before getting drafted in the big leagues. Build your dream team in Diamond Dynasty, which includes a new Red Diamond player tier. With your PlayStation Plus membership, you can get the Jump Start Bundle. It includes five The Show Packs, one Equipment Pack, and the Jumpstart Choice Pack to customize your player and to get your Diamond Dynasty squad going.

Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Wobbly Life, and MLB The Show 26 will be available until Oct. 5. You can still grab August's free PlayStation Plus Essential games — Big Walk, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, and Signalis — through Aug. 31.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier of Sony’s subscription game service. It offers online multiplayer access, a monthly assortment of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for a three-month subscription, or $10.99 monthly, following a price hike across all tiers of PS Plus in May.
