Ram announced that it will perform a voluntary recall of 1,271,294 trucks that could have been produced with dangerous seatbelt buckle anchors. According to an announcement made by the automaker, some Ram 1500 pickups from the 2019–2026 model years are included in the recall. Outside of the U.S., the recall extends to cover another estimated 156,138 vehicles in Canada and an estimated 74,084 vehicles in Mexico.

According to the automaker, the center and driver-side rear seats in the affected vehicles are suspected of having been produced with seatbelt anchors that weren't properly attached to the vehicle. In the event of a crash, the improperly anchored seatbelts may fail to do their job correctly, increasing the chance of injury, and obviously failing to meet federal standards.

The automaker will notify affected owners with a request to bring their truck to a dealership for inspection. Dealer technicians will then inspect the seatbelt buckles in the rear seat, and when applicable, correctly attach them to the vehicle's body structure, free of charge.

Official documents will be filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but have not been made available at the time of this article's posting. Once the recall is officially posted, owners concerned that their vehicle is included can check using the NHTSA recalls website.
