Netflix has dropped the first look at its new teen psychodrama The Body, which is set to be released in November.

The streamer dropped a slew of stills from the eight-episode show, which follows a dance troupe at a Catholic school. Quinn Shephard created the series, which she says is a love letter to ‘90s and Y2K teen movies like Carrie and Jennifer’s Body. Kristina Bogic, Sara Boustany, Geena Meszaros, Nnamdi Asomugha, Louisa Krause, Shirley Chen, Jackson Kelly, Sofia Wylie and The Traitors alum Gabby Windey star in the series.

AI professors are negotiating the new realities of academic research

Last week, I headed 30 miles south of San Francisco to a hotel in Mountain View, California, to join some of the most accomplished, and some of the most promising, AI researchers in the world. I was hosting roundtable interviews and speaking at a media training for a convening of the Schmidt Sciences AI2050 program, an initiative funded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt that supports academics whose work involves AI. The fellows list is a who’s who of AI luminaries, and though not all of them made it out to the Bay, every time I turned a corner I saw a scientist whom I’d interviewed previously or whose research I admired. (Full disclosure: I received a science communication award funded by Schmidt Sciences in 2024.)

Our Long-Term 2026 VW Golf R Suffers a Crack and Hits the Track

10,000-Mile Update

The 2026 Volkswagen Golf R is a swift little steed, so it makes sense that it would find itself at the center of all sorts of action during its 40,000-mile long-term evaluation. By the time the odometer crossed into five digits, it had already suffered some dents and dings, and it also spent some time on the track.

Eccentrica's Lamborghini Diablo Restomod Is Now Available As A Roadster, Still Firmly In The Uncanny Valley - Jalopnik

The restomodders finally came for the Lamborghini Diablo a couple of years ago, when a company called Eccentrica announced plans to build 19 examples of a car it called the V12. The Eccentrica V12 promised carbon-fiber bodywork, a 550-horsepower V12 engine paired with a gated shifter, LED lighting, a modern interior, and a look that just felt a little off from every angle. Now, Eccentrica is back with the V12 Roadster, a roof-free version that's automatically better because roadsters are a type of convertible, and life is better with more convertibles.

Hot days could gain more than four additional hours of extreme heat by the end of the 21st century under a high-emissions scenario, according to a modeling study published in Nature Climate Change. The findings show that hourly assessments can capture heat exposure overlooked by daily metrics and could support more effective heat risk management and public health planning.

Allison Janney on Playing the President in ‘The Diplomat,’ Her Broadway ‘Seven-Year Itch’ and the One Genre She’s Never Tried

Allison Janney is shy, and she has no interest in ever being president.

The first part surprises people. The second is now professionally inconvenient because Janney has spent the better part of two decades walking the corridors of a fictional Washington, D.C., and finally has taken the seat behind the Oval Office desk. In “The Diplomat,” Debora Cahn’s political thriller on Netflix, Janney’s Grace Penn has ascended from vice president to commander in chief, a turn the actor swears she did not see coming. “I didn’t know until I read the last page of a script,” Janney tells Variety. “I was sitting right here in my kitchen and turned the page and saw it, and it just freaked me out. I haven’t had that kind of reaction to a script before, ever.”
