Researchers have shown that it's possible to take clear, high-resolution X-ray images using very little radiation. With more development, the new approach could eventually make medical X-ray diagnostics less risky and more accessible.

Apple bans home services from its upcoming Maps ads

Apple has quietly published a rulebook for its new Maps ads, revealing a more curated approach than advertising giant Google.

The iPhone maker has not disclosed a launch date for Maps ads, which was announced earlier this year, beyond saying they would arrive “this summer” in the U.S. and Canada. Large seabird colonies have a surrounding boundary known as Ashmole's halo, where food sources are depleted, forcing the birds to travel farther to gather the food they need. The reason seems obvious—the more birds, the more they eat, which reduces the available prey. But that might not be the only factor at play, according to a new study of penguins and krill published July 15 in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
